Our cabins sit in a spacious field above our family farm at Cwmllwy Uchaf, Abercegir, near Machynlleth, Powys, in the Dyfi Valley in Mid Wales — on the southern edge of Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park. It’s a great place to explore this often undiscovered area of Wales with mountains, sea and forests and its friendly local town and culture.

Machynlleth (“Mach”) is about 5 miles away – about a 10 minute drive by car. It's the local market town and ancient Capital of Wales, with a large Co-op supermarket, petrol station, pubs, cafés, independent shops and a regular Wednesday market.

There are six individually designed eco cabins plus two spacious treehouses, sleeping between 2 and 4 people each.

The treehouses (Ty Cainc and Nyth y Barcud) are elevated, more spacious 4-person structures built around a mature oak tree, while the cabins are ground-level within the main field, and come in 2, 3 and 4-person sizes with more varied, individually built designs.

Yes — the cabins are generally off-grid and run on solar and wind power, with wood-burning stoves for heating. There is mains power to Caban Coch only. Lighting and charging is solar-powered rather than mains electricity, so don't expect to run high-power appliances. There is hot water for showers and washing in all cabins, and all have flushing toilets rather than a compost toilet.

There's no Wi-Fi in the cabins (great for actually communicating with one-another), but there is generally good 3 and 4G mobile signal on most networks — useful to know if you need to stay reachable.

Cabins have a basic kitchen with a 2-ring hob and a coolbox with ice-packs available on-site (not a powered fridge, except in Caban Coch). All crockery, cutlery, saucepans and utensils are provided, along with washing-up liquid, dishcloths and tea towels.

Yes, each cabin has its own small bathroom with a flushing loo and a hot shower, plus a sink with hot and cold water. Toilet roll is provided; you'll need to bring your own shampoo/shower gel.

Each cabin has a wood-burning stove for heat, and they get nice and cosy very quickly. Cabins have an outdoor fire pit too, so barbecues and marshmallow toasting are part of the experience.

Yes, pets are welcome in cabins that allow them, at £10 per pet per stay (space for maximum of 2 pets). Dogs aren't allowed on beds or sofas and shouldn't be left unattended.

Yes, children are welcome, and there's space for one baby at no charge — but you'll need to bring your own travel cot as space is limited. There are mezzanine sleeping in some cabins, so supervising children is advised.

Check-in is generally from 4pm and check-out by 10am. You don't need to meet anyone on arrival, as keys are typically left in the cabin door or a keysafe — early check-in or late check-out can't be guaranteed and should only be requested a few days before arrival if the cabin is free the night before.

Yes, typically a minimum of 2 nights (rising to 3 nights during school holidays), though this can vary by cabin and season - please check directly.

It gets dark at night here (there's no outside lighting on the cabins after dark) so torches and wellies are recommended, plus your own toiletries. Bed linen and towels for the booked number of guests are provided. Bring your own games, binoculars and a book if you like, as there is no WiFi access.

A deposit (usually 20%) confirms your booking, with the full balance due 6 weeks before arrival. Cancelling within 6 weeks of your stay forfeits the full balance (non-refundable and non-transferable), so travel insurance is strongly recommended, as Caban doesn't provide its own cover.

Yes — the on-site outdoor sauna, heated by a wood-fired HUUM stove and with a cold plunge pool, can be booked in 2-hour sessions for up to around 5 people, and is open to both staying guests and local visitors.

The farm connects directly to mountain biking and walking trails linking with Glyndŵr's Way and the Dyfi Forest, including custom-built downhill bike descents, plus routes suited to families, road cyclists, and hikers of all abilities. For more adventurous mountain biking, you can visit the renowned Dyfi Bike Park within 15 minutes.

Yes — Cardigan Bay's wonderful open sandy beaches at Ynyslas are a short drive west, the lovely harbour village and beach of Aberdyfi is just across the Dyfi estuary, and Cadair Idris and Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park are close by to the north. Around 30 minutes South is the coastal University town of Aberystwyth.

Each cabin is reached via a main farm track with spacious free parking close to each, though exact arrangements (and how far you might need to carry bags) vary by cabin — it's worth asking directly when booking if this matters to you.

Yes, we welcome mountain bikers, and often ride there ourselves. Caban’s accommodation is located in Abercegir, around 15 minutes drive from Dyfi Bike Park. We are just off the main road if travelling from England to the bike park, so it’s ideally placed on your way to a weekend getaway.
